Inspiration and Celebration
Isabel of Castile or Queen Isabella I of Castile
Isabel lived from April 22, 1451 to November 26, 1504. (She died at age 55.) Isabel reigned with her husband Ferdinand II from Aragon from December 11, 1474 to November 26, 1504 (30 Years). Their marriage became the basis for the political unification of Spain under the grandson Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Isabel and Ferdinand drove out the remaining Moors from Spain and attempted to unify the country under the Catholic faith. She was a just ruler and good financial manager. They supported Columbus on his voyages to America and helped establish Spain as a global power and world leader for the next century. Isabella was short, grew and strong and had long strawberry blonde to auburn hair. She rode into battle in armor and was as comfortable in Moorish costume as she was the finery of European royal costume. Shown armored in Bell(e): Isabel, she is respected for making hard decisions at personal sacrifice, as she ruled with vision and courage, leaving a lasting legacy. Designated a Most Catholic Monarch, Isabel is still highly regard for her exemplary religious rule.
