Inspiration and Celebration

Marie Antoinette, as a Young Adult

Queen of France and Navarre

Marie Antoinette lived from November 2, 1755 to October 16, 1793 (executed age 37).  Marie Antoinette was Queen Consort of France from 1774 – 1792 (18 years).

As her husband was not very interested in her, as a young woman, Maria developed a passion for court life, including fashion.  Rose Bertin was her favorite dressmaker.  She shared her love of French fashion with her royal family through dolls dressed in miniature version of her outfits, creating what we might think of as fashion dolls called pandoras.  Marie Antoinette is also known for her elaborate hairstyle and jewelry. Accomplished in the arts, she performed for the entertainment of her court.  Her early court life might be thought of as the pinnacle or final expression of French Rococo artistic expression.
